Taille aux Loups, Clos De Venise, 2015

Jacky Blot has 45 Hectares, all planted with Chenin Blanc and has fast become one of the world’s leading authorities on it. Set up in 1988 this Domaine had one aim, to bring the Montlouis appellation out of the shadow of its neighbour, Vouvray. He ages his wines in Bordeaux barriques, both old and new, in cool cellars dug into the rock.

This Clos de Venice, is a 1 hectare, south facing, walled vineyard on what is known locally as the ‘Premiere Cote’. Why is that important? Well, south facing vineyards are exposed to the sun for a lot longer than any other so the grapes can ripen fully and are extra tasty as a result. On the nose it has notes of honeyed peach, baked apple, poached pear, and hazelnuts. On the palate there is an incredible complexity that combines this honey and baking spices with a buttery richness and flaky pastry. This wine is not to be underestimated, it’s a serious bottle!

Food Pairing – Perfect with roasted white meats such as Turkey. Works incredibly well with Goose because of its racy acidity it can cut through the smoky, fatty richness of the meat.
