Domaine Kuenhof Riesling ‘Kaiton’
Italian Riesling is not a common wine but Brigitte and Peter Pliger are working wonders here. Not too far away from Austria, which may explain their grape choices, the vineyards are pretty steep exposing the grapes to a lot of sunshine. That extra sun combined with the organic philosophy of Brigette and Peter gives some top quality wine. There are some very clean fruity flavours here, predominantly lemon, lime, grapefruit and apricot. Very zingy and fresh but there is a touch more weight to it from the huge very old oak barrels they use for ageing.
Food Pairing – almost any fish or seafood but especially anything with tomato. It also really cuts through the fat of a pork belly or creaminess of a risotto.
