Elvio Tintero Nebbiolo
If you’re not familiar with Nebbiolo, it’s kind of like Italy’s version of Pinot Noir. It’s medium bodied, very fragrant and super tasty. This one from Tintero (produced from sustainably farmed vines) doesn’t look like much but boy does it taste amazing. On the nose we have red cherry, raspberry, strawberry, aniseed and violet. Nebbiolo’s famous for smelling like rose petal and you definitely get that here too. A sip and you’ll get flavours of everything you smelled on the nose combined with a light bit of tannin and something a bit herbal. Nebbiolo is the grape variety that the king of Italian wines Barolo is made from and you get a lot of Barolo-esque flavours here for a quarter of the price! The estate is currently being run by Elvio’s son Marco and his wife Cinzia and only 4,000 bottles of this are made every year.
Food Pairing – the traditional option would be a bolognese with truffle linguine but works equally well with a premium cut of beef and polenta!
