Moscato d’Asti ‘Nivole’ 37.5 cl, Michele Chiarlo
£10.99
Consistently one of the best Moscato’s in the world. This wine is super aromatic (which basically means it’s pungent, in a good way) with strong notes of peach, apricot and blossom. When you stick your nose in this you really do get hit with wall of fragrance. Delightfully sweet with a gentle bubble and lower alcohol of 5% abv means that it’s very fresh on the palate and not too sticky. One of our favourites, so much so we took a trip to Michele’s vineyard in November 2019. Have a look at our instagram for some of the photos of the trip!
Food Pairing – perfect with fruit-based desserts like apple pie or peach crumble. Also, somewhat surprisingly, this works equally well with Thai food!
How is Moscato made?
Moscato d’Asti is made in quite a unique way. After the grapes are pressed, the juice is stored at -2°C (normally done at 12-15°C for white wine) and the fermentation slowly begins until the alcohol gets up to 5% abv. The carbon dioxide produced during the fermentation is trapped and absorbs into the wine and creates the bubbles! This method gives a really light bubble but also means the fruit flavours stay fresh and juicy!
